Ethan looks at Mattie, her golden hair swaying with the slight breeze and blue eyes sparkling in the early morning light. The stood on the porch together watching as Zeena set off to leave. Ethan’s heart surged at the thought of having Mattie to himself. Little did he know that Mattie was more dangerous than she was innocent. Mattie looked at Ethan knowing that she had him under her spell. As Zeena rounded the bend and disappeared from sight, Mattie looked up into Ethan’s chocolate brown eyes and smiled, she went over to the steps and sat down, Ethan followed suit and as he sat she placed her hand on his knee. Ethan was in a daze and Mattie leaned in but stopped only an inch from his lips waiting for him to close in. To Ethan her voice was magic and made him want to only please her. She had a ghost of a smile on her lips as he closed the distance. Her lips where soft under his, she tasted like honeydew and roses.
Zeena sat in the buggy waiting to get on the train. She could not understand why Ethan liked her cousin. Mattie was ugly, not only to her but to other women. She sat in town listening to what everyone had to say. One woman was talking about Mattie, she paid close attention as to learn all she could about what has been going on outside of her home. “That girl, she is ugly, worts and boils have littered her skin and her body is deformed. My husband thinks her skin flawless. He must be blind.” The woman she had been talking to looked as if knew exactly what was going on. “Same with mine, he thinks her more beautiful then me. I heard all the boys and men in town
have fallen at the wench’s feet.” Suddenly a man came up almost in a daze, he had heard what the two women had said, “No, she is not a wench! Her beauty is unparalleled. Her golden hair is like a halo and her eyes and blue as the morning sky. Her skin is flawless and her voice is magical and so very sweet.” Zeena knew all too well of the evil that her dearest cousin possesses. If she had her own way Mattie would be gone by now for Mattie did not love nor hate but simply like a dragon kills and runs away. Being around humans had made Zeena weak and not even her soulmate could help she now. Zeena knew that she should have died long ago along with her true love, but she has not given up hope, maybe just maybe he can be broken from this spell. She would travel for as long as needed to get the antidote to Mattie’s spell. Zeena’s ‘shooting pains’ are really because she has not feed since after her marriage, in order to be better she would need to feed and soon for she needs her strength to beat the wench that hath bewitched her only love.
